All About Twitter

By Ben Rickmond

A simple history of Twitter: Have you ever used or seen “tweets” on twitter? Well here is some info you might not know. Ex-Googler Evan Williams started a website called Odeo. He wanted to make a podcasting platform and got his friend Biz Stone, another ex-Googler, to help. Then Apple launched iTunes and trampled over Odeo. Jack Dorsey, a former Odeo employee decided to make Twitter. Twitter has been in business for about 13 years.  Their headquarters is in San Francisco. There are an average of 8,741 tweets per second.

Twitter can create forums and you can have chats public/private. You can make announcements for companies and whatnot. For example, President Trump has created over 17,000 tweets. Apparently, Twitter ads are an auction-based system. Your ad budget comes into play when you want an ad.  So the first two can cost you $0.50- $4. But trendy ones can cost you $200,000. Twitter is also very addictive.

Sadly, Twitter is a web site with a lot of abusive users posting inappropriate stuff. People have opinions about this. A lot of kids say (on Common Sense media) that you can have the app, but you need to supervise the content. Adults say it is horrible and not worth downloading. The recommended age is 15. However, you must be 13 to get an account. Yes, Twitter is a fun way to communicate, but you need to watch the content
